Superintendent's Message

Dear Community Member,

Thank you, the members of the Canfield community, for your continued support of our school system.  I am truly honored to be the superintendent of one of Ohio’s premier school districts.  During this past year, as in years past, our students have enjoyed numerous academic and non-academic successes.  Our music performances, athletic teams, stage/drama events and other clubs and activities are venues where we observe our kids grow beyond the classroom to expand their school life in valuable ways.

Although Canfield has one of the highest performance rates in Ohio there is always room for improvement.  Our district Vision Statement pledges that we create an educational environment which challenges all students to achieve their highest potential, leading to top 10 rankings in Ohio by 2022.  This Vision does not only gauge our growth via standardized test results, but in every method of evaluation of our school system.  The quality of instruction our students receive is the single most important aspect of our ability to provide a world-class education.  Our recent testing results show growth in 19 tested areas with results totaling 88 percentage points higher when comparing previous years.  This being said, we are committed to always finding ways to improve…our youngsters deserve it!

Another responsibility that we take very seriously is to be sure that our school culture and climate remains positive and allows children a feeling of safety and security.  We know that kids can’t adequately achieve their potential if there are negative distractions in the school day.  We are working hard to ensure that concerns about these matters are proactively addressed.  School climate, with a focus on world-class instruction in literacy and numeracy, can serve as a foundation to take the district to the next level.  Success in these areas can be tied directly to the district’s technology, another high priority for us heading into the 2017-2018 school year.  Success with technology means more than having the latest equipment in our classrooms.  It also means that our teachers have adequate familiarity with the equipment and are skilled at integrating 21st century learning tools into their lessons.
