Canfield High School Among Top 5% in Ohio

US News

U.S. News & World Report ranked more than 17,000 schools this year and Canfield High School is ranked 41st in Ohio. There are 916 high schools in Ohio which means Canfield is in the top 5% Statewide.  Canfield is 18th in Northeastern Ohio. Alex Geordan, Superintendent says, “We are excited about the ranking our high school received. We would like to thank all of our staff k-12 and supportive families who helped contribute to the success of our high school.”

These rankings are calculated differently than state success standards. The high school rankings are based on six factors, each weighted:

  • college readiness, using participation and performance on AP and IB tests (30 percent)
  • reading and math proficiency (20 percent)
  • reading and math performance (20 percent)
  • underserved student performance (10 percent)
  • college curriculum breadth (10 percent)
  • graduation rate (10 percent)

All ranking data is compiled from U.S. News & World Report and is from the most recent Ohio School Report Card.

On the 2017-2018 State Report card, the Canfield Local School District was the highest in the Tri-County area for performance index scoring 104.3. The Performance Index measures the test results of every student at their own ability level.  The report card also measures Financial Data. The Canfield Local School District spends 70.5 % of its funds on classroom instruction.  This amounts to a cost per pupil expenditure of $8,713.  The state average is $9,149.  Geordan says, “This is important to note because we are achieving spectacular results while also being good stewards of our money.” All other districts with higher achievement rates spend much more per pupil.
