Canfield art students, Morgan Prather and Mara Gurerrieri, have earned National Medals and recognition in the 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
The annual awards competition, hosted by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, received nearly 320,000 works of art and writing this year. National Scholastic medals are awarded to approximately one percent of works submitted from across the country. Each work is judged by visual and literary arts leaders based on originality, technical skill and the emergence of personal voice or vision.
Morgan Prather, a junior at CHS, hockey player and National Speech and Debate qualifier, was awarded a National Gold Medal for her sculpture titled, “Dying for a Snack”.
Mara Guerrieri, a senior and standout CHS lacrosse player, won a National Silver Medal for her illustration titled, “Colorful Soul”.
The National Award Ceremony, which is held at Carnegie Hall in New York City, has been postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
