Dear Canfield Community,
Happy New Year Cardinals! I trust everyone had a fantastic holiday season and enjoyed time with family and friends. We are just about half way through the school year and I look forward to a strong finish as we will begin our second semester soon.
As I reflect back on the start of this school year, I am so excited that we were able to welcome all of our students back to in-person learning. Similar to last year, we have faced numerous challenges due to COVID-19 but we have stayed the course and remained resilient.
Our district theme this school year is “Every Cardinal Counts” centered around specific HARDening vs. HEARTening efforts. We have developed a purposeful focus on the safety, mental health and wellness of our staff and students. This initiative has included the following: additional counseling help across the district, AED/CPR training, Stop the Bleed training, Red Flags or Mental Health First Aid training, Transportation Safety Day, Champion Day, Rotary Student of the Month, Veteran/Service Night, Safety Buckets, and more. You will see these efforts highlighted in our “Every Cardinal Counts” focus throughout this newsletter.
The district has also been busy addressing areas of capital improvements making some much needed repairs. This work has included a section of the middle school roof replaced over the 8th grade wing, flooring in elementary classrooms, a new roof over the high school weight room and freshman locker room, and Phase I of new HVAC units on the high school funded by the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER.)
As the second semester begins, we will embark on a new 5 year strategic planning process. The district will be conducting focus groups with the Board, leadership team, staff and students. We will be using a third party company to conduct conversations with parents and other community stakeholders to help us with the plan.
On behalf of the Board of Education and administration, we wish everyone a fantastic 2022 and look forward to the successes it will bring!
Every Cardinal Counts!
